The Chicago Cubs have made history by becoming the first MLB team to secure a CBD sponsorship!
They've partnered with Chicago-based Mynd Drinks to provide fans with a unique experience at Wrigley Field.
The deal is expected to see Mynd Drinks become the first company to sell CBD products at a ballpark.
Under the partnership, Mynd Drinks will have on-field branding along with in-game features, social and digital media content.
The company hopes to sell its hemp-based beverages at Wrigley Field to 21+ consumers as soon as possible through Levy Restaurants Wrigley Field concessions. Mynd Drinks will also be designated as the Cubs' "Official CBD Partner."
The Cubs' CBD sponsorship is a groundbreaking move for a major North American sports league. While the UFC and NASCAR's Richard Childress Racing have sold CBD sponsorships, and the NBA has recently changed their stance, all other major North American leagues have prohibited them due to the stigma associated with THC, the psychoactive component of cannabis.
This partnership is a step towards the normalization of CBD use in sports, which could ultimately lead to more significant changes in the sports industry. It will be interesting to see if other MLB teams follow the Cubs' lead and also secure cannabis sponsorships.
